Yes. Many Tennessee families use online curriculum and academic support as part of home education. Tennessee identifies home school as education conducted or directed by a parent or legal guardian, with options including independent home school or enrollment in an approved church-related “umbrella” school. Families may also choose approved accredited online schools as a private-school option, though those are not classified as home schools under Tennessee law.

For an independent home school, Tennessee requires the parent or legal guardian to be the teacher of record, hold a high school diploma or approved high school equivalency credential, and submit an Intent to Home School form to the local school district where the family resides. First-time registration can happen at any point in the school year; continuing independent home school families submit a new intent form before each school year.

Yes. Independent home school students must receive at least four hours of instruction per day for 180 days per year. Parents also maintain attendance records and submit those records to the local director of schools at the end of each school year.

Yes, for independent home school students. Tennessee requires students in grades 5, 7, and 9 to take the same state-board-approved secure standardized tests required of public-school students. Testing and record requirements for church-related umbrella school students are handled by the approved non-public school program.
For Southeast Academy families, national achievement testing is included with enrollment.

Yes. Southeast Academy accepts enrollment at any time during the year, including mid-year starts or after moving to Tennessee. You can withdraw from a current school without a waiting period. Families moving to Tennessee should notify their district within a reasonable time after arriving.

Yes. Southeast Academy offers accredited programs with certified teacher support and grading, including diploma-track options for high school students.
